• Ernest Maxwell, 56, of 2114 State Street, was shot to death by Little Rock policemen Tuesday night after he had stabbed one police officer. Capt. A. C. McMurry said the police answered a call at 9:22 p.m. from a woman at 2108 State Street. The woman told the officers that Maxwell, who lived next door, had come to her house three times Tuesday night, pointed a knife and gun at her and told her to get out of "his" house. The police said Maxwell had no control over the house.

• As Little Rock expands its park system over the next few years, one thing appears certain, the city will gain more soccer fields. "It's one of the biggest needs we have because we are so far behind," Bill Bunten, director of the city's Parks and Recreation Department, said recently. The city park system has five fields at Interstate and Murray parks. That's about one field for every 35,000 people, compared to the national average of a field for every 10,000 people, Bunten said. Because of its limited number of soccer fields, Little Rock is losing out on hosting state and regional tournaments to cities like Harrison and Fort Smith, Bunten said.

Several sources alerted the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette to the blunder earlier this week. Corey W. Johnson's time was up that Friday.
