I-49 lane closings extended

BENTONVILLE -- Steel beam work over Interstate 49 has been extended, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Lanes will be closed between mile markers 87 and 89 to hang bridge beams at Arkansas 72, Exit 88. All lanes will be closed for 15-minute intervals between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. tonight and Friday night; July 6 and July 7; and July 9-11.

The project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening more than three miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. 62/Arkansas 102 to Arkansas 72 and includes auxiliary lanes toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. Construction is expected to be complete later this year.

More information on the $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
