J.B. Hunt schedules shareholder meeting

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. announced that its shareholders meeting will take place at 10 a.m. April 20 at its Lowell headquarters, according to its annual proxy statement.

A proxy statement includes details of business that will be conducted at the meeting and the income of the company's top executives. It is filed yearly with the Securities and Exchange Commission and sent to shareholders.

Total executive compensation for 2016 was outlined in the document. John Roberts, president and CEO, made about $5.5 million in 2016, up from $5.4 million in 2015. David Mee, chief financial officer and executive vice president, also upped his 2016 pay to $2.5 million from $2.4 million in 2015.

Johnelle Hunt, who co-founded the company with her late husband J.B. Hunt, remains the largest principal stockholder with over 19 million shares, about 17 percent of the total.

Governor names 4 to oil and gas panel

Gov. Asa Hutchinson has named two new members to the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission and reappointed two other members.

The new members are Tommy McWilliams of Story Oil and Gas in Magnolia, and Fort Smith's Charles Wohlford of Wolf Exploration in Barling. Hutchinson's office announced Wednesday. McWilliams replaces Chad White of Magnolia. Wohlford replaces George Carder of Searcy. Their terms expire Feb. 20, 2023.

Hutchinson reappointed Jim Phillips Jr. of El Dorado and Mike Davis of Magnolia to six-year terms.

State index off 1.23; P.A.M. drops 4.5%

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, slipped 1.23 to 345.32 Thursday.

"Equities staged a late-day rally with the major indexes closing slightly positive as West Texas intermediate [crude oil] traded below $50 a barrel and 10-year treasuries climbed above 2.60 percent," said Leon Lants, managing director at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

P.A.M. Transportation Services shares fell 4.5 percent in above average volume, and ArcBest Corp. shares fell 2.3 percent in light trading.

Shares of Murphy Oil rose 3 percent, and Windstream Holdings shares rose 2 percent.

Total volume for the index was 21.1 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
