Books & Bites new at library
Bentonville Public Library is introducing Books & Bites Book Club Kits, now available for check out.
The new book club kits truly are an event experience in a bag. Books & Bites have everything adults, teens and children will need to host their own book club at home or at their favorite venue, complete with party planning ideas for an unforgettable event. All kits contain 10 books, complete discussion questions, author information and interesting research necessary to host a book club meeting. The kits eliminate the need to research or pay for the books out of pocket.
In the adult kits, a Snacks & Sips guide provides themed beverage and appetizer ideas applicable to the story, as well as various decorating suggestions to add a little pizzazz to the event. For teens and children, a Games & Grubs guide offers fun and simple snacks that everyone can make together as a group, as well as suggestions for interactive games that enhance the understanding of the story.
Each kit checks out to one group member for six weeks. Kits can be reserved through the catalog or library staff member.

Red Cross
needs blood
March is Red Cross Month, and is the perfect time to support the American Red Cross and patients in need by donating blood.

Second Monday
Night Salon
Trolly Line Bookstore and The Gathering in Rogers are to host Second Monday Night Salon, a free venue for people who love to read and/or write to gather, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday at The Gathering in Rogers, 116, S. First St.
Featured authors this month will be Gary Austin and Richard Hayes Phillips. Austin is the author of Nuns and Warewolves, Blood Connections and Murder in the Pigsty. Phillips, an author, musician and songwriter from New York, is the author of White Slave Children of Charles County, Maryland.

Hope offers support
Hope Cancer Resources will be offering the following meetings:
• Art, Healing and Hope: Collaging Your Story: Hope Cancer Resources partners with The Buddy Project to facilitate a six-week art group for patients with any type of cancer. Members will create a collage of their personal cancer journey. A light meal and all supplies needed for the project will be provided. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Thursday from March 16 to April 20 at Hope Cancer Resources.
• Blood Cancers Support Group: The support group for adult patients, family and friends coping with leukemia, luymphoma, myeloma, MDS and other blood cancers meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Cancer Resources.
• Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery: CLIMB is a Children’s Treehouse Foundation family support group that helps children ages 6 to 12 cope with and share feelings about a parent or adult loved one who has cancer. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday from April 4 to May 9 at Hope Cancer Resources.
• Ostomy Support Group: The subject of the discussion this month will be managing ostomy care. There will be a 1 p.m. educational meeting prior to the main meeting at 2 p.m. March 19. Visit nwaostomy.weebly.com.

Marine Corps
The Marine Corps League of Northwest Arkansas is for all Marines and Fleet Marine Force corpsmen, regardless of age or years served. The league meets on the third Monday of each month at American Legion 1885 in Bella Vista.

Nebraskans
The Nebraska Club has named officers for the coming year. Doug and Deb Kerns will serve as co-presidents, along with Roger and Marcia Gerdes, secretaries, and K.B. and Sue Smith, treasurers.
Anyone with a Nebraska connection is eligible for membership in the club. The club is a social organization that meets in Bella Vista. Membership includes Nebraskans not only from Bella Vista, but from throughout Northwest Arkansas. Historic figure
stars at banquet
Sondra Torchia wears many hats. This year, she has the opportunity to play businesswoman and newspaper editor Roberta Fulbright, who took on her husband’s 17 businesses after his death.
The local historian and actress takes full advantage of the chance to portray different historical figures and help out a good cause, all at the same time. Torchia, who portrayed Susan Gaskin last year, will portray Fulbright at the fourth annual McDonald County Historical Society spring banquet in April.
Fulbright was a remarkable woman in history who, following her husband’s death in the early 1920s and after raising six children — including a son who became a U.S. Senator from Arkansas — took over her husband’s 17 businesses in Fayetteville. Many businessmen intended to help poor Mrs. Fulbright run those businesses. But she relied on her own business instincts and made it through those early days to much success.
Torchia’s portrayal is just one feature of the spring banquet, set for 5 p.m. April 1 at the River Ranch Resort in Noel, Mo. Dinner is $30, or a table is $200 with all proceeds benefiting the McDonald County Historic Courthouse and Museum.
