Athletics luminaries from on and off field are inducted into state Hall of Fame

More than 1,000 sports fans and former Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame inductees gathered at the Statehouse Convention Center on March 3 to welcome a new class of members at the 59th annual induction ceremony.

"Sports brings out the best in us," said Keith Ingram, president of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, as he welcomed guests to the dinner. The inductees "inspire us and serve as role models for us." Many were accompanied by proud family members.

Inducted where Charlotte Jones Anderson, football administration; Charlie Dearman, coaching; Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Wally Hall, journalism; the late Larry Jackson, football; Dr. Tim Langford, football; Darren McFadden, football; Jim Rasco, athlete/sports historian; Sean Rochelle, football; and Dave Williams, coaching. Each honoree was introduced with a short video about their careers, and instead of giving acceptance speeches, there was a short question and answer session with each inductee. Past inductees were also introduced.

A meritorious service award was given to Greg Hatcher for his work with the hall. Incoming Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame president Richard Johnson was also recognized.
