The Joshua Tree entered the U.S. Billboard Top Pop Albums chart (as it was then called) at No. 7 on April 4, 1987, and reached No. 1 three weeks later, replacing Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill.

The Joshua Tree was U2's first album to reach No. 1 in the United States. It stayed at No. 1 for nine weeks, before being replaced June 27 by Whitney Houston's Whitney.

• "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" were both Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles.

The Joshua Tree won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1988.

• It's estimated the album has sold roughly 25 million copies worldwide.

• In 2006, Time magazine selected the record for its All-TIME 100 Albums list.

Rolling Stone ranked The Joshua Tree No. 27 on its 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

• In 2014, The Joshua Tree was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the U.S. Library of Congress for being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The record was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame that same year.
