A SWEET REASON TO RUN

Marathon VIP partygoers offered pre-run sugar rush

From the Pinnacle Room on the top floor of the Little Rock Marriott, guests at a March 3 Little Rock Marathon VIP party could look down to the streets where runners would be competing two days later. At the finish line: large 8 1/2 -inch candy-themed Runalicious marathon medals.

The candy theme was carried throughout the festive party with a large candy buffet, volunteers in candy necklaces and pink-cloth-covered guest tables holding giant pieces of candy. Guests included key volunteers; sponsors; former Little Rock Mayor Jim Dailey, who was chairman of the very first Little Rock Marathon; and race organizers Geneva Lamm and Gina Pharis, who wore matching white sequined tops and pink pants. Also in attendance was artist Holly Tilley, whose painting of runners was turned into posters given to marathon participants.

The marathon weekend included a Health & Fitness Expo, a half marathon and a 10K and 5K and a Little Rockers Kid Marathon.
