Kitchen called site of Blytheville fire

BLYTHEVILLE -- A fire that killed a Blytheville woman appears to have started in the kitchen of her home, said Blytheville Fire Chief Mike Carney.

Quanita Thomas, 26, died when her home at 805 Delmar St., north of the Mississippi County town's downtown, caught fire at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters reported seeing heavy flames and thick smoke billowing from the house when they responded, Carney said.

Firefighters entered the home and found Thomas in a hallway.

Officials sent her body to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy, the fire chief said. Fire marshals have not determined the cause of the blaze, Carney said.

A firefighter was treated for injuries when he received burns on his ear.
