Inmate’s stories in performance
The Prison Story Project will present a staged reading of “On the Row” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 31 at 21c Museum Hotel in Bentonville, 200 N.E. A St. A reception begins at 7 p.m. and an epilogue from 8:30 to 9 p.m., in collaboration with Public Discussion NWA and the Inverse Performance Art Festival. Men on Arkansas’ death row engage in the art of storytelling, listening to each other and their own minds and hearts. They told their stories, which were collected, edited and put together in a staged reading, performed first for them and now for the public.

River cleanup needs workers
The third annual East Fork of the White River Cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Volunteers will register at Bunch Park in Elkins. Then they will fan out to stations along the river. Volunteers will be provided lunch and have the chance to win door prizes from local sponsors.
All participants will be supplied with trash bags, maps to cleanup locations and gloves.

CNN satirist to lecture
W. Kamau Bell, San Francisco-based comedian, satirist and host of CNN’s United Shades of America has built his career with commentary on race, politics and issues in modern American society. He will bring that commentary and more to the University of Arkansas’ Distinguished Lecture Series at 7 p.m. March 29 at the Fayetteville Town Center, 15 W. Mountain St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The event is free, with no tickets required.
In the Emmy-nominated United Shades of America, Bell travels the country, offering viewers looks inside American subcultures, including an episode that featured the Ku Klux Klan. Bell first came to attention in 2007, with his one-man show, The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour, which he periodically updates as part of his lecture appearances. He followed that success with the FX comedy series, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. He is also known for co-hosting popular podcasts, Denzel Washington is The Greatest Actor of All Time, Period and Politically Reactive, in addition to the live public radio show, Kamau Right Now! His goal is to promote understanding, start conversations — and make people laugh.

Senior Games deadline nears
Northwest Arkansas Senior Games, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging, provides an opportunity for fun, fitness and competition through an array of events, including runs, dashes, walks, javelin, discus, shot put, air rifle, spin casting, basketball shoot, archery, bowling and much more. The dates for this year’s games include: April 7, women’s eight-ball pool, and April 14, men’s eight-ball pool, both being held at the Newton County Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Jasper; April 20, bowling, Cottonwood Bowl in Harrison; April 28, track, field and fun events, Harrison High School, F.S. Garrison Stadium and Cash Center; May 6, archery, Bull Shoals City Park.
Anyone age 50 and older is welcome to participate. Registration fee is $10. The deadline for the eight-ball pool competition is March 31. All other event registrations need to be postmarked by April 7.

American Legion hosts breakfast
The Willard E. “Rocky” Glidewell American Legion Post 341 of Bella Vista would like to remind the public of the all-you-can eat breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Breakfast includes pancakes, French toast, ham, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and juice and coffee. There is no cost, but donations are accepted.

Barbershop Chorus meets
Pride of the Ozarks Chorus will meet at 7 p.m. every Thursday at Arkansas Arts Academy High School, 506 W. Poplar St. in Rogers. Pride of the Ozarks is a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, also known as the Barbershop Harmony Society. Pride of the Ozarks is an all-male a cappella singing organization which enriches lives through singing. All male singers of good character are welcome to join.
