Prohibition against abortion on basis of sex of fetus sent to Arkansas governor

A prohibition against abortion on the basis of the sex of the fetus was passed by the House and sent to Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday.

House Bill 1434 had previously sailed through the House over the opposition of abortion-rights advocates. The bill was changed in the Senate to allow the state attorney general to seek an injunction against doctors who violate the law.

With a vote of 57-9, the House concurred with the Senate amendment.

Abortion-rights activists say the law will make it harder for women to obtain abortions once the sex of the fetus can be determined.
