Guns the subject of Northwest Arkansas Community College forums in Bentonville

BENTONVILLE -- New legislation regarding guns on college campuses will be the topic of two forums at Northwest Arkansas Community College next week.

The meetings will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Shewmaker Global Business Development Center's Peterson Auditorium. The meetings are intended mainly for faculty and staff, but the public is invited to attend as well, said Lisa Anderson, a college spokeswoman.

House Bill 1249, signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Asa Hutchinson, allows Arkansans with concealed-carry permits to carry firearms onto public college campuses and many other public places if they get up to eight hours of training. The law takes effect Sept. 1.

The forums will focus on the law's impact on the college, according to a college news release.
