Tree care clinic slated for April 5

The Arkansas Urban Forestry Council will help people learn how to help ensure their trees stay healthy and productive with the Mature Tree Care Workshop on April 5 at the Arkansas Tech University Facilities Management Office, 2505 Red Hill Lane, Russellville. The workshop is open to tree care professionals, citizens and homeowners.

Registration for the workshop starts at 9:45 a.m., followed by a series of lectures: "Life Stages of Trees" by Benjamin Babst of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; "Addressing the Needs of Historic and Mature Trees" by Patti Erwin with the Arkansas Forestry Commission; "How Trees Respond to Insects and Pathogens" by Chandler Barton of the commission; and "Proper Pruning for Mature Trees" by UA's Chris Stuhlinger.

The day ends with a Mature Tree Tour led by ATU's Robert Condley, 2-3 p.m.

Registration, which is due Friday, is $30 for forestry council members. The $55 fee for nonmembers includes a one-year membership. Lunch and all materials are included.
