Derrick Conley, 19, was arrested about 3:25 a.m. March 21 after police found a firearm hidden in his waistband and a small amount of what police suspected was marijuana inside a vehicle, according to a police report.

Conley pleaded guilty to two class A misdemeanors — carrying a weapon and possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, online court records show.

Police had also charged Conley with possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass, but both of those misdemeanor charges were later dismissed, according to online court records.

Officers with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Police Department found Conley in the parking lot of the University Tower, located at 1123 S. University Ave., according to an arrest report. The UAMS Medical Center leases space in the building, and UAMS police regularly patrol the area, an official said.
