Getting it straight

Judge Lavenski Smith is the third Arkansan to hold the title of chief judge of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Pat Mehaffy was the first Arkansan to hold the chief judge title. Judge Richard Arnold was the second. A story in Saturday's editions about Smith becoming the first black chief justice of the 8th Circuit and a correction in Sunday's editions incorrectly reported who was the first Arkansan to hold the chief judge's title.
