BASKETBALL

Glasper transferring to Arkansas Tech

RJ Glasper, a walk-on guard for the Arkansas Razorbacks this season, announced on his Twitter account he's transferring to Arkansas Tech University.

Glasper suffered a shoulder injury this season and redshirted as a true freshman, so by transferring from an NCAA Division I to Division II school, he'll have four seasons to play and be immediately eligible at Arkansas Tech.

Glasper, 5-10, averaged 27.3 points, 8.7 assists and 5.5 rebounds as a senior at Forrest City High School.

Jacksonville guard signs with Cleveland State

Tyree Appleby, a 6-1 guard from Jacksonville, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for Cleveland State in Cleveland.

Appleby was a four-year letterman for the Titans, averaging 23.2 points and 5.0 assists a game during his senior season.

UA tennis teams in NCAA Tournament

The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville men's and women's tennis teams both will play in the NCAA Tournament.

The UA men (16-12), making their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 19th overall, will play Florida State (17-11) on May 12 in Forth Worth. The Arkansas-Florida State winner will advance to play the TCU-Jackson State winner.

The UA women (17-9) will play Wichita State (18-8) in Stillwater, Okla., on May 13. It is the Razorbacks' third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid -- all in Stillwater -- and 15th overall.

The Arkansas-Wichita State winner will advance to play the winner of Oklahoma State's match against Missouri-Kansas City.

BASEBALL

Johnson to coach for USA Baseball

University of Arkansas, Fayetteville pitching coach Wes Johnson has been selected to be on the staff for the 17-and-under National Team Development Program for USA Baseball this summer.

The program will consist of 40 players selected by former professional players and scouts and college and high school coaches -- including Johnson --and be divided into two teams called "Stars" and "Stripes."

Johnson will serve as pitching coach for the "Stars" team under North Carolina Coach Mike Fox.

UAFS rallies, loses in extra innings

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (28-18) rallied from a six-run deficit Tuesday against Northeastern (Okla.) State (20-23) but fell 8-7 in 10 innings at Rousey Field in Tahlequah, Okla.

UAFS trailed 7-1 after four innings, but the Lions scored six runs in the final five innings to tie the game. Second baseman Brennan Dooly scored the tying run in the top of the ninth inning, reaching base on a one-out walk and scoring on an error with two outs. The Lions stranded a runner at third in the top of the 10th, and RiverHawks left fielder Jordan Payne hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

Left fielder Dion Williams extended his hitting streak to 11 games for UAFS, which wraps up the regular season with a three-game series against Heartland Conference co-leader St. Mary's on Friday and Saturday in San Antonio. Williams went 2 for 6 with 1 double, 1 home run and 3 RBI, while right fielder Logan Allen was 4 for 6 with 2 doubles and designated hitter Anthony Seminaris was 2 for 2.
