MARINERS

Cano goes on 10-day DL

SEATTLE -- Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has been placed on the 10-day disabled list due to a quadriceps strain, the latest Seattle player to be sidelined by injury.

Seattle placed Cano on the disabled list Tuesday after he missed the previous five games due to the strain. Cano underwent an MRI that confirmed the strain and the Mariners decided a few extra days of rest would be the best move.

Cano is the ninth Seattle player to land on the disabled list since the start of the regular season and the sixth since April 26. Cano is hitting .296 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI in 34 games.

Cano's move to the disabled list wasn't the only major news with Seattle. The Mariners are also moving young reliever Edwin Diaz out of the closer role because of struggles with his mechanics. Diaz walked four batters and recorded just one out in Monday's victory.

RANGERS

Beltre may debut soon

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Adrian Beltre did some light jogging on the field at Globe Life Park on Tuesday afternoon for the first time since injuring his right calf, and the Texas Rangers third baseman said that he hopes to make his 2017 debut within the next three weeks.

Beltre also took ground balls and batting practice on the field before the Rangers played the Philadelphia Phillies. He said that the medical staff has designed a program for him that has produced improvement within the past week.

"It's on the right track," Beltre said. "I just have to make sure my legs are in shape and not to have any setbacks. So far, the plan the trainers have for me has been working, and I'm trying to follow that plan."

Beltre admitted that he was frustrated at the beginning of the month by the slow recovery of the calf he strained the first weekend of April as he thought he was about to come off the disabled list after recovering from an existing strain in the same calf.

Instead, he and the Rangers have been very indecisive about when he might be available to them. But for the first time in a few weeks, Beltre seems to be optimistic about the health of his leg.

"I'm improving," he said.

METS

Cabrera on disabled list

PHOENIX -- The New York Mets have put shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the 10-day disabled list and added reliever Neil Ramirez to their battered bullpen.

The Mets made the moves before Tuesday night's game at Arizona. New York had lost five in a row.

Cabrera is out with a sprained left thumb. His move was retroactive to Sunday.

Ramirez joins his third major league team this month. The right-hander, who turns 28 next week, had an 8.71 ERA in nine games for San Francisco this season, striking out 18 in 10 1/3 innings.

Ramirez was cut by the Giants and signed by Toronto on May 5. He didn't pitch for the Blue Jays and was released four days later. Last year, Ramirez played for the Cubs, Brewers and Twins.

As a rookie in 2014, Ramirez pitched 50 games for Cubs, going 3-3 with 3 saves and a 1.44 ERA.

The Mets also transferred closer Jeurys Familia to the 60-day DL. He is expected to return to the Mets late this season after having surgery last week for a blocked artery near his right armpit.

INDIANS

OF Zimmer gets call

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians called up outfielder Bradley Zimmer, their first-round draft pick in 2014, from Class AAA Columbus on Tuesday.

Zimmer, 24, was hitting .294 with 5 home runs and 14 RBI in 33 games with Columbus. The left-handed hitter is considered the top prospect in the Indians organization.

Outfielder Abraham Almonte was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right biceps.

Almonte injured his arm during an at-bat last week. He started in right field Monday but was removed in the fifth inning. Almonte is batting .221 with 1 home run and 6 RBI in 33 games.

Right-hander Shawn Armstrong was recalled from Columbus and infielder/outfielder Yandy Diaz was optioned to Class AAA. Right-hander Carlos Frias was designated for assignment.

ROCKIES

RHP Bettis finishes chemo

DENVER -- Colorado Rockies right-hander Chad Bettis said he has finished his last round of chemotherapy two months after doctors discovered his testicular cancer had spread.

Bettis posted a photo Tuesday on his Instagram account of his new daughter sitting on his lap and his wife standing nearby.

Bettis wrote: "Just got done with my last day of chemo!! My family and I want to say thank you for all the support and prayers! We're eternally grateful for y'all. We are excited to move forward and start the process of getting back."

Bettis, 28, had surgery in November to remove the cancer, but it returned and he was forced to leave the team in March for chemotherapy. There's no timetable for his return to the NL West-leading Rockies.
