Cardinals power past Naturals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Bruce Caldwell homered and had three hits as the Springfield Cardinals topped the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 8-2 on Saturday.

Up 3-2, the Cardinals extended their lead with four runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run single by Anthony Garcia.

Springfield southpaw Tyler Lyons (1-0) picked up the win after allowing two runs on three hits over five innings. Opposing starter Ashton Goudeau (2-3) took the loss in the Texas League game after giving up three runs and four hits over 3 1/3 innings.

TRAVELERS 6, DRILLERS 5 Kyle Waldrop hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and Chuck Taylor had three hits and scored two runs as the Arkansas Travelers defeated the Tulsa Drillers 6-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Peter Tago got Kyle Garlick to fly out with a runner on first to end the game for his second save of the season. The home run by Waldrop scored Taylor to give the Travelers a 4-3 lead. With the score tied 4-4 in the fifth, the Travelers took the lead for good when Chantz Mack drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Taylor.

TRAVELERS 6, DRILLERS 3 Tyler Marlette, Marcus Littlewood and Joey Wong connected on back-to-back-toback homers in the sixth inning, leading the Arkansas Travelers to a 6-3 win over the Tulsa Drillers in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The home runs gave the Travelers a 6-3 lead. Tulsa went up 3-0 on an RBI single by Jose Miguel Fernandez in the fourth inning. Darin Gillies (1-2) got the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Michael Johnson (3-1) took the loss in the Texas League game. Thyago Vieira recorded his second save of the season.
