BOWL-ING FOR DOLLARS

Foodbank fundraiser nets $120,000 to help feed needy

Bowls of all sizes and shapes made by local artisans were reminders that one in five Arkansans struggles with hunger. The vessels were included in the silent auction at the Arkansas Foodbank's 15th annual Empty Bowls. The event at the Statehouse Convention Center is the food bank's signature fundraiser.

Attendees bid on bowls and other silent auction items while the band Tyler Kinchen and the Right Pieces entertained. A buffet dinner included Peck's Special Salad from Trio's, shrimp and grits from the Capital Hotel Bar and Grill, bacon-wrapped tenderloin medallions with blue cheese cream sauce from Samantha's Tap Room and Wood Grill, pork loin sliders from Taziki's, vegetarian Asian noodle bowls from the Clinton Presidential Center and strawberry shortcake from Honey Pies. Legacy Termite and Pest Control was honored for being a community partner and leader in hunger relief efforts.

The event raised $120,000 for the Foodbank, which supports 450 agencies in Arkansas that provide food in their local communities.
