Child Care Aware of Northwest Arkansas is providing free training. Classes include:

•Monday: "Anger and Expectations" class is held 10 a.m.-noon at 614 E. Emma Ave., Suite 131 in Springdale.

•Tuesday: "Keeping Our Children Safe" will touch on critical safety and health issues that harm children. Class is held 6-8 p.m. at 614 E. Emma Ave., Suite 131 in Springdale.

•Wednesday: "Parenting Young Children with Love, Encouragement and Limits" introduces effects of biology and culture on parenting, parenting styles and supportive parenting tips. Class is held 10 a.m.-noon at 1200 W. Walnut St. in Rogers.

Mount Comfort

elects officers

The Mount Comfort Cemetery Association held its annual meeting in April. Officers elected were Terry Davis of Bentonville, president; Donald Hatfield of Prairie Grove, vice president; Peggy Hatfield of Prairie Grove, treasurer/secretary. Grave sites will remain at $350 each, and urn sites will remain at $50. Expenses for 2017 will be over $10,000. All association members are asked to consider making tax deductible donations to the association for maintenance. Association members are those who hold the rights to a grave site and/or relatives of those buried in the cemetery.

May 28 will be decoration day, and association members will be on site to receive donations toward the annual maintenance from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tax deductible donations can be mailed to Mount Comfort Cemetery Association, 3878 W. Mount Comfort Road, Fayetteville 72704. Make checks payable to the Mount Comfort Cemetery Association.

City to honor

preservationists

The City of Bentonville is now accepting nominations for the inaugural Historic Preservation Award, to recognize the accomplishments of those who have taken a committed role in the preservation of Bentonville's historic integrity. Nominations will be accepted through May 31.

Any citizen, organization, business or agency may submit a nomination for property within the Bentonville city limits. You may nominate your own property or nominate someone else by filling out the application.

NEBCO serves

country breakfast

The NEBCO Fire-EMS Memorial Day Country Breakfast is from 7 to 10 a.m. May 29 at the NEBCO Community Center, U.S. 62 at South Wimpy Jones Road in Garfield. A complete country breakfast with sausage, bacon, ham, eggs, potatoes, pancakes and biscuits and gravy with a drink is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 12.

All proceeds go to the NEBCO Fire-EMS Fire and Rescue Boat replacement fund.

Preservation

The History Club at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith will be conducting workshops throughout the summer on cemetery preservation for community members in the Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas areas.

Workshops will be held from 8 a.m. to noon June 10 and 24 and July 8 and 22 at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, located at 1401 S. Greenwood Ave. The workshops are designed for anyone intending to begin a cemetery preservation project and will help ensure proper preservation of tombstones.

Discussions will focus on current issues in cemetery preservation, such as recording and documenting cemeteries and graveyards, undertaking preservation efforts and exploring conservation techniques and issues.

Arts Council

seeks artists

The Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is accepting applications from artists who would like to join the Arts in Education Artist Roster. Performing, literary or visual artists who are interested in working with teachers and students in schools or after-school/summer programs are encouraged to apply. Deadline to apply is July 7.

The Arts in Education Artist Roster is an online list of artists who are available for participation in the Arts in Education residency program. The AIE program places professional artists in Arkansas schools and non-profit community organizations to work directly with teachers and students to demonstrate their art forms and share their ideas, creativity and talents.
