Drillers unleash 19-hit attack

Jose Fernandez's third-inning grand slam highlighted a six-run inning as the Tulsa Drillers beat the Arkansas Travelers 13-6 on Sunday at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

The Drillers led 3-0 going into the bottom of the third inning when they loaded the bases on singles by Edwin Rios, Kyle Farmer and Matt Beaty.

Jacob Scavuzzo's RBI single made it 4-0, setting the stage for Fernandez, who took an 0-1 pitch from Travelers' starter Lindsey Caughel over the right-field wall to make it 8-0. Johan Mieses hit the next pitch over the right-field wall to make it 9-0.

Scavuzzo's sacrifice fly scored Rios in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-0.

Caughel was replaced by Ryan Hortsman, who along with Blake Perry and Zac Curtis finished the game.

The Travelers scored in the fifth inning when Marcus Littlewood singled in Chantz Mack to make it 10-1.

The Drillers made it 13-1 when Farmer homered in the sixth and Paul Hoeneck had a two-run home run in the seventh.

The Travelers scored five runs in the eighth.

Mack had a two-run home run off Drillers' reliever Karch Kowalczyk to make it 13-3. Justin Seager hit a home run to make it 13-4. Nelson Ward singled, Ian Miller walked and Gianfranco Wawoe doubled down the left-field line to score both of them to make it 13-6.

The Drillers, who had 19 hits, were led by Farmer who went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Rios went 3 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Fernandez went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and scored 2 runs.

Colt Hynes (4-1) pitched 3 innings in relief of Josh Sborz to get the victory, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Caughel (2-5) took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Wawoe led the Travelers by going 2 for 5 with 2 RBI; Mack went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.
