Flaherty, Garcia carry Springfield to 4-0 win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Jose Adolis Garcia homered and had three hits, and Jack Flaherty allowed just three hits over 7 2/3 innings as the Springfield Cardinals topped the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 4-0 on Monday.

Flaherty (7-1) picked up the win after he struck out three and walked four.

In the bottom of the fourth, Springfield scored on a single by Gabriel Lino that brought home Alex Mejia. In the following at-bat, Oscar Mercado hit an RBI single, driving in Danny Diekroeger to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Jacob Wilson hit a solo home run, while Garcia hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Emilio Ogando (2-2) went five innings, allowing two runs and seven hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out one and walked four.

The Naturals were held scoreless for the third time this season, while the Cardinals’ staff recorded their fifth shutout of the year.

TRAVELERS 5, DRILLERS 4

TULSA, Okla. — Ian Miller hit a tworun double in the eighth inning, leading the Arkansas Travelers to a win over the Tulsa Drillers.

Zac Curtis struck Wynston Sawyer out with a runner on first to end the game for his fourth save of the season.

The double by Miller scored Joey Wong and Nelson Ward and was the game’s last scoring play.

Thyago Vieira (2-1) got the win with 21/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Jeremy Bleich (0-1) took the loss in the Texas League game.

Paul Hoenecke homered and singled, driving in two runs for the Drillers.
