State police: Arkansas officer shoots woman who pointed weapon at police

An Arkansas woman was shot and injured Wednesday afternoon after she pointed a weapon at an officer responding to a reported burglary, state police said.

A Pine Bluff Police Department shot and injured Vanna Johnson, 32, at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Fir Street about 2:45 p.m., according to a news release.

When officers arrived at the complex after the burglary call, they were "immediately approached" by Johnson in the parking lot, state police said. She reportedly then pointed the weapon at officers.

Johnson was taken to an area hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening, authorities said. She will be taken to the Jefferson County jail after treatment.

No officers were injured, according to the release. No further information was released Wednesday afternoon.

When the state police investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Jefferson County prosecuting attorney to determine whether the shooting was justified.
