BASEBALL

Sun Belt Tournament postponed

The first day of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Statesboro, Ga., was postponed because of inclement weather. The two games scheduled were Arkansas State University against Georgia State and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock against Texas State.

Sun Belt Conference and Georgia Southern officials are scheduled to meet today to evaluate field conditions to determine game times. Today’s forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain.

In a statement, the Sun Belt said it plans on maintaining the double-elimination format for the tournament and will explore the option of using multiple sites with the intent to play as many games as possible today.

GOLF

Arkansas Tech up to 15th

Arkansas Tech University moved up three spots to 15th at the NCAA Division II Men’s Championship at the Reunion Resort Golf Course in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Wonder Boys shot a 293 and have a 36-hole total of 592. Barry leads with a 552 while West Florida (556), Florida Tech

(561), Florida Southern (562), Newberry (575) and Ferris State

(575) round out the top five.

Individually, Austin Smith and Jonathan Echberg are Arkansas Tech’s top players at 8-over 148.

John Coultas of Florida Southern leads all individuals with a 6-under 134.

State golfers named to all-region team

Harding University’s Alex Williamson, Arkansas Tech University’s Luke Cornett and Austin Smith, and Henderson State’s Price Murphree were named to the All-Central Region team.

Williamson led the Bisons with a 73.25 stroke average and had five top-10 finishes. Murphree had a 73.37 stroke average and nine top-25 finishes. Cornett and Smith are participating for the Wonder Boys in the NCAA Division II Championship.

TENNIS

Razorbacks’ opponents unveiled

University of Arkansas, Fayetteville senior Mike Redlicki , the No. 10 singles player in the country, will face 63rd-ranked Johannes Schretter of Baylor at 10 a.m. today at the NCAA Men’s Championship in Athens, Ga. Redlicki is 27-10 overall this season and 10-8 this spring. He has faced a ranked opponent in 26 of 37 matches.

Jose Salazar, ranked 39th in singles, will square off against 13th-ranked Skander Mansouri of Wake Forest at 2 p.m. today. Salazar leads the Razorbacks with a 30-8 overall record, including a 19-5 mark this spring. He is 9-4 overall against ranked opponents, 7-1 this spring. Salazar is also 8-2 away from home this season.

In the doubles bracket, Redlicki and Salazar will face 16thranked Herkko Pollanen and Mikael Torpegaard of Ohio State on Thursday at a time to be determined.

BASKETBALL

UAFS men add point guard

University of Arkansas at Fort Smith men’s Coach Josh Newman announced the signing of Cameron Ivey, a 6-1 point guard from Dekaney High School in Houston.

Ivey averaged 11 points, 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds per game for the Wildcats, who finished 27-8 overall and advanced to the Region 2 semifinals.

SPRING SPORTS

All-Star coaches announced

The Arkansas High School Coaches Association announced its coaching staff for the All-Star games to be held June 20-21 in Conway.

The East baseball team will be coached by Ronnie Goodwin of Cabot, with his assistants Bruce Hunt of Greene County Tech, Tommy Richardson of Woodlawn and Jim Tejeck of Mountain Home. The West squad will be coached by Kyle Slayton of Nashville, with assistants Randy Loyd of Magazine, Will McGinnis of Greenland and Ryan Casalman of County Line. The baseball game will be a doubleheader at the University of Central Arkansas’ Bear Stadium at 5 p.m. June 20

The East softball team will be coached by Todd Finley of Bald Knob, with his assistants Lisa Dreher of Bryant, Chastan Carpino of Harrisburg and Deanna Carr of Armorel. The West softball team will be coached by Randy Osnes of Farmington, with his assistants Sara Tew of Bauxite, Blue Kesterson of Poyen and Tamara Strawn of Sheridan.

The softball doubleheader will be played at Farris Field at 5 p.m. June 20.

Coaching the East team in boys soccer is Tyler Woods of Beebe, with assistants Amanda Carter of Jonesboro Westside, Richard Friday of Bryant and Miguel Mondragon of Hamburg. The West team will be coached by Brent Crenshaw of Siloam Springs, with assistants Darren Chandler of Pulaski Oak Grove, Stephen Pack of Rogers and Cory Sturdivant of Hot Springs. The East team in girls soccer will be coached by Larry Stamps of Searcy, with assistants Michael Klucher of North Little Rock, Kim Paslay of Brookland and D.J. Vincent of Little Rock Parkview. The West team will be coached by Bijan Timjani of Texarkana, with assistants Todd Eskola of Joe T. Robinson, Stephanie Mitchell of Prairie Grove and Michael Riba of Vilonia. The girls soccer game will start at 5 p.m. at Estes Stadium on June 21, followed by the boys game at 7 p.m.
