FISHING HOT SPOTS

LAKE OUACHITA The water is clear, with temperatures at 76-80 degrees. The best fishing is in the central part of the lake. Black bass are hitting plastic frogs, Texas-rigged plastics and black spinnerbaits on main and secondary points. The biggest bass are hitting large swimbaits, 8 inches or larger. Walleye are good and being caught on small crankbaits, spoons and green soft plastics on main and secondary points. Stripers are still good on Alabama rigs and live bait. The central part of the lake is the best area for these fish. Bream fishing is excellent at 10 feet to 15 feet on crickets and worms. Crappie are biting minnows and small jigs at 20 feet to 25 feet deep over brush. Catfishing is very good on live bait and cut bait at depths of 10 feet to 20 feet.

DeGRAY LAKE Surface temperatures are in the mid-70s, and the lake is clear up to Point 14, with moderate stain farther up. Bass fishing is good on topwater plugs, spinnerbaits and shallow-running crankbaits over long shallow points in creeks and big coves. The best fishing has been in the Big Hill, Brushy and Yancey areas. Anglers are catching many small Kentucky bass along the bluff banks at points 14, 15 and 28 on Texas-rigged finesse worms in green pumpkin/red glitter. The shad spawn has sparked the hybrid fishing between Caddo Bend and Arlie Moore. If no "breaking fish" are located, try trolling the small 5-arm umbrella loaded with 4-inch swimbaits. Use the sonar to locate the schools, which will be suspended at depths of 12 feet to 15 feet.

BEAVER LAKE Stripers are biting near the mud line near Rocky Branch in depths of 10 feet to 100 feet. Concentrate your efforts on gravel bars, points, humps, treetops and cuts in the bank where stripers corner bait. White bass are starting to hit topwater lures near Indian Creek, Lost Bridge North, Big Clifty, points 5 and 6, Rambo Creek, Rocky Branch, Ford and Cedar creeks, and Larue. Walleye are being caught near Horseshoe Bend at 10 feet to 30 feet with Rapala Tail Dancers on three-way rigs. Natural colors work in clear water, and chartreuse/orange and clown colors in stained water. Walleyes are also hitting 1-ounce, Bink Pro Scale jigging spoon in white or white/chartreuse combo.
