Interstate 49 work to close Fayetteville lanes

FAYETTEVILLE -- Construction on Interstate 49 and the Fulbright Expressway requires multiple nightly lane closings through the end of the week.

Crews will close a lane of the I-49 north traffic off-ramp, Exit 67, to Fulbright Expressway for 15 minutes at a time through Saturday between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials. The closings began Wednesday.

The closings will allow construction of the I-49 north on-ramp overpass bridge above the travel lane of Fulbright Expressway. It's anticipated the nightly work will take three days to complete.

Adjustment of the dates of the lane closings may become necessary because of weather or other unforeseen conditions.

In August 2016, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a $94.8 million contract to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. of Fort Worth, Texas, for the project. The project will widen I-49 to three lanes in each direction and improve the Arkansas 112, Exit 66, interchange.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com.
