LITTLE RED RIVER (GREERS FERRY TAILWATER) Generators at Greers Ferry Dam are running about 12 hours daily, and that pattern will probably continue for the next two or three weeks. The generation begins early morning, which provides some wadable water downstream for a few hours each day and excellent drift fishing from a boat. When fishing higher water, use long leaders and add weight to get your fly or Trout Magnet down for a good presentation. For fly-fishing, we recommend San Juan worms, pheasant tails, sowbugs and streamers. Pink and red-colored Trout Magnet bodies on chartreuse heads are recommended for spin fishing.

BUFFALO RIVER The Buffalo National River is high but navigable. The water is muddy, but smallmouth bass are biting at tributary mouths.
CROOKED CREEK The creek is high, swift and stained. Smallmouth bass are biting in shoals and along sheltered banks out of the main current.
BULL SHOALS TAILWATER Brown trout fishing is excellent, but fishing is slower for rainbows. Best lures are deep-diving Smithwick Rogues with orange bellies, black or blue backs, dark blue to gray backs and yellow/chartreuse sides. Black/silver Rapala Countdowns and Husky Jerks are working well, as are No. 7 or No. 9 Countdowns in brown trout color. Drifting pink worms, redworms and nightcrawlers are productive as well.
NORTH FORK RIVER Water has been wadable water at night. The most productive flies have been small midge patterns (sizes 18, 20, 22) like ruby midges, root beer midges, zebra midges (black or red with silver wire and silver bead) and soft hackles (sizes 14, 16) like the Green Butt. Egg patterns also have been productive. Double-fly nymph rigs have been very effective. Try a small bead-headed nymph (zebra midge, Copper John or pheasant tail) suspended 18 inches below a brightly colored San Juan worm (hot fluorescent pink or cerise size 10). The fishing is better in the morning.

BEAVER TAILWATER The floodgates were open at Beaver Dam again this week, making fishing and navigation difficult. Fish are scattered, but some trout are being caught trolling Rapalas.

CATHERINE Bank fishermen are catching rainbows on redworms and nightcrawlers fished just off the bottom with a marshmallow floater. Wax or meal worms are also working well used in the same manner.
