A 45-year-old Arkansas man who was walking on a highway early Wednesday died after being struck by two vehicles, authorities say, and one driver has been arrested.

According to a news release from the Pine Bluff Police Department, Dewayne Jackson was near the Pine Bluff Cemetery in a traffic lane of Martha Mitchell Expressway, also known as U.S. 65B, shortly after 3:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 1999 Nissan Maxima.

State police wrote in a crash report that Jackson, a Pine Bluff resident, was then struck by a 1991 Ford. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County coroner.

The Nissan's driver, 22-year-old Nia Blade, was taken into custody on DWI, driving on a suspended driver's license and no proof of insurance charges, the Police Department said. According to the release, she was also arrested on "probable cause of negligent homicide."

Records show Blade, who is from Grandview, Mo., remained at the Jefferson County jail Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $1,390 bond.

The other driver is not expected to faces charges, the Police Department said.

State police's report noted that it was raining and the road was wet when Jackson was hit. At least 421 people have died on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary data from the agency.
