RUSSELLVILLE — An Arkansas man found guilty of killing two men at his family's salvage yard was sentenced to life in prison without parole Thursday.

Pope County Circuit Judge William Pearson announced the sentence for Tyler Barefield one day after a jury convicted Barefield on two counts on capital murder in the September 2016 double slaying.

Prosecutors and Barefield's attorney agreed to an enhanced sentence of an extra seven-and-a-half years on each count, a product of the jury also concluding that Barefield used a gun during a capital murder. The terms will run concurrently, Pearson said.

Prosecutors did not pursue the death penalty for Barefield, leaving the life sentence as the only option after hi capital murder conviction.

Barefield will appeal, his defense attorney, Patrick Benca, said after the sentencing.
