Varied music on tap for shows in Harrison, Little Rock

Harpist Maire Ni Chathasaigh and guitarist Chris Newman will perform two shows of traditional Celtic, baroque, swing, bluegrass and jazz music in Arkansas this weekend -- 7 p.m. today at the Lyric Theater in Harrison and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the Little Rock Folk Club at the Hibernia Irish Tavern in Little Rock. Admission to the Lyric show is $20; admission to the Hibernia show is $15, $10 for military, $8 for students with ID and free for accompanied children age 12 and younger.

The duo has released seven albums together, beginning in 1988 with The Living Wood, and followed by Out of Court in 1991, The Carolan Albums in 1994, Live in the Highlands in 1995, Agailaimh in 2001, FireWire in 2004 and Christmas Lights in 2010.

Chathasaigh and Newman first performed in Little Rock in the mid-1990s, at Vino's, for the Little Rock Folk Club.

Country and Christian rock concerts are on tap this weekend at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock this weekend -- Aaron Lewis and Blackberry Smoke at 7 p.m. today and Casting Crowns and Zack Williams at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Admission to the Lewis "Sinners and Sanctified" concert, in the arena's Theater configuration, is $55 for general admission in the pit and $55 or $39.50 for reserved seating.

Lewis and Blackberry Smoke are co-headliners and have as their opening act Alex Williams.

Lewis' first taste of fame was as the lead singer of metal band Staind. He veered into country with an EP, Town Line, released in 2011. He has since released two full albums: The Road in 2012 and Sinner in September 2016. Blackberry Smoke, a five-man band from Atlanta, released its debut album, Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, in 2004, and followed that with Little Piece of Dixie in 2009, The Whippoorwill in 2015, Holding All the Roses in 2015 and Like an Arrow in 2016.

Casting Crowns, who are on "The Very Next Thing" tour, have as their opening act Zack Williams of Arkansas .

Admission to the Casting Crowns concert is $19.75-$69.75.

Casting Crowns began in 1999 as a youth group project at a church in Daytona Beach, Fla. Following a move to Georgia by leader Mark Hall, the band now consists of five men and two women. They have released 13 albums and performed in North Korea and on Mike Huckabee's TV show.

Williams was born in Pensacola, Fla., but grew up in Jonesboro. He released his debut CD, Chain Breaker, on Jan. 27. Earlier this year, he won the GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.

Morgan formerly called his act Whitey Morgan and the 78's. Formed in Flint, Mich., they released a major label debut in 2010 for roots rock label Bloodshot Records in Chicago.
