More than 4 months after man found lying dead on road, Arkansan charged with homicide

An Arkansas man was charged Thursday in the killing of a 24-year-old found lying on the side of the road in June, authorities said.

According to a news release from the White County sheriff's office, authorities responded June 21 to a call reporting an injured man lying on the roadside near a home on East Martin Luther King Drive in Kensett, Arkansas Online previously reported.

The victim, later identified as 24-year-old Donovan Branch, was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

After an investigation, deputies identified Stacey Mitchell, 43, as a suspect, the release stated. The Searcy resident was arrested Thursday and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bond, according to authorities.

Mitchell is charged with first-degree homicide and possession of a firearm by a certain person, the sheriff's office said.

He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 5.
