Knife-wielder fatally shot by Arkansas officer, police say

A 56-year-old man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Johnson County on Saturday evening, according to Arkansas State Police.

A Clarksville police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle about 6:35 p.m. at the intersection of Taylor Street and Cline Road, according to a news release.

When the vehicle stopped, the driver, identified as Nyung Kyee, stepped out of the vehicle and brandished a knife, the statement said. The officer, who was not named by state police, shot Kyee.

Kyee was pronounced dead at the scene. His body will be taken to the state Crime Laboratory for examination.

No police officers were injured, the release said.

The fatal officer-involved shooting was the second in as many days.

On Friday, a 44-year-old man shot a Batesville police officer multiple times, state police said. Responding law enforcement officers then fatally shot the suspect.

The Batesville police officer suffered injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatening, state police said.
