A central Arkansas man is accused of pointing a gun at a group of three golfers, including a police chief, according to authorities.
About 5 p.m. Sunday, Maumelle Police Chief Sam Williams called 911 to report a man pointing a gun at people while claiming to work for the FBI near the 17th hole of the Country Club of Arkansas golf course, a Police Department report stated.
One of the other golfers reportedly told officers that a ball had landed behind a house on Marseille Drive. While they were looking for it, 49-year-old Bradley French appeared with a gun, saying they were on his property, the golfer told police.
French aimed the gun at the group, threatening to "blow their [expletive] heads off," according to the report.
Another golfer told officers that the area they searched for the ball was on country club property. Officers reportedly observed that French's backyard is fully fenced, with a padlock securing the gate.
Police said they located French standing in the driveway of a home next to his own on Marseille Drive.
In the report, officers noted that French appeared intoxicated and that his slurred speech made him difficult to understand. He was drinking a beer while speaking to authorities, according to police.
The owner of the home where French was found reportedly told officers that the 49-year-old had been over there to work on a vehicle. The two men had been talking about guns, prompting French to retrieve a shotgun from his own home to show him, the report stated.
The homeowner said he later went inside, and French took his gun back toward his own residence.
French reportedly asked several times why he was under arrest, repeatedly stating to officers that he worked for the FBI and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of terroristic threatening and one count of second-degree criminal impersonation, the report said.
Records show he was being held at the Pulaski County jail Monday afternoon and is set to appear in court Tuesday. No bail had been set.
Williams will not be making a statement about the confrontation, a Maumelle police spokesman said.
