Fairy tale concert

The Platypus Players -- Arkansas Symphony Orchestra musicians Beth Wheeler, oboe; Trisha McGovern Freeney, violin; Tze-Ying Wu, viola; and Ethan Young, cello, plus Naoki Hakutani, piano, and narrators Stephanie Smittle and Dr. Richard P. UALR lecturers

John Kirk, director of the Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will present a lecture on the 60th anniversary of the desegregation of Little Rock's Central High School, 7:30 p.m. today at Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St. Little Rock. Refreshments will be at 7 p.m. The lecture is part of the University History Institute's Evenings with History series. And Kristen McIntyre, associate professor in the department of applied communication at UALR, will deliver a lecture titled "Connection, Not Perfection: A Communication Orientation to Public Speaking," about making connections with the audience and reducing anxiety while public speaking, 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Room G, Donaghey Student Center, UALR, 2801 S. The Fog of War

The Central Arkansas Library System will screen of the documentary The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara, American history as seen through the eyes of former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. The film won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. A discussion with humanities scholars and veterans Pat Hoy and Alex Vernon will follow. The screening is part of the "Fiction & Fact: A War Dialogue with Veterans" program, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
