Congressman requests details on possible closure of post office in Little Rock's Heights neighborhood

An Arkansas congressman has asked the U.S. Postal Service to provide him with more information about the possible closure of a post office in Little Rock's Heights neighborhood.

In a letter sent Oct. 27 to Rod Salley, acting director of government relations and public policy at the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Rep French Hill wrote that he has been contacted by elected officials, business owners and neighborhood associations about the facilty located at 5420 Kavanaugh Blvd.

The location could reportedly close in December because its lease has not been renegotiated yet, the Republican said.

“Losing this facility which has been a cornerstone of this community for 53 years would be detrimental to not just the Heights but the entirety of central Little Rock,” he wrote.

Hill added that community members would like to keep a post office in the area if the Kavanaugh location is forced to close.

The U.S. Postal Service did not respond to requests for comment.
