Murder charge dropped more than 1 year after central Arkansas beating death

Prosecutors on Tuesday dropped a murder charge against a man who was accused of beating a North Little Rock resident to death, court records show.

Eric Aaron McFadden, 37, was jailed Oct. 22, 2016, in the death of 42-year-old Alexander Judd Wyles, who was assaulted with a 2 inch-by-2-inch piece of lumber, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

McFadden faced a charge of first-degree battery that was upgraded to second-degree murder after Wyles died from his injuries at a hospital, according to the Pulaski County sheriff's office. He was released on $500,000 bond Oct. 26, 2016, a jail employee said Tuesday.

The murder charge was dropped after a witness refused to testify, according to the Pulaski County prosecutors's office.
