An Arkansas woman accused of trying to suffocate her infant son pleaded not guilty this week, according to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

Shannon Dalaine Heather, 31, appeared Monday in Faulkner County Circuit Court on a charge of criminal attempt to commit murder in the second-degree.

Police say Heather’s husband told authorities Sept. 22 that his wife had tried to suffocate their nearly 7-month-old child at the family's home in the 200 block of Club Lane in Conway.

That prompted a search for Heather, who was not at the residence when officers arrived. She was later found "not far" from the home and arrested, according to authorities.

Heather remained at the Faulkner County jail as of Wednesday morning in lieu of $250,000 bond, records show.

She has a pretrial hearing set for Jan. 4.
