2 students arrested over gun at Arkansas high school

Two students were arrested after a firearm was found in a backpack Wednesday at White Hall High School, police said.

Officers were called about 11 a.m. after a report that two teens had been detained in connection to possessing a firearm at the school, according to a news release.

District Superintendent Doug Dorris said a student had notified one of the school's administrators after hearing a rumor that two students -- one in ninth grade and one in 11th -- had a weapon.

When officers arrived, the students were in the office speaking with school officials, the release said.

School administrators told police that one of the students had a firearm in his backpack, which officials had located and seized.

Investigators determined that one of the students had taken the firearm from home and given it to the other student on campus in an attempt to sell it, authorities said. There were no threats made to students, faculty or staff members, according to police.
