Weekend Predictions: Great day in SEC, even if it's early for LSU

There are very interesting games in Athens, Starkville and maybe Baton Rouge -- mostly because of the 11 a.m. kickoff, but those fans know their way around a bloody mary so the LSU faithful will be up for the game.

The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville has won two in a row, but not against teams as talented as LSU.

If yours truly picks Ole Miss to lose, bet on them to win, and vice versa. Went 7-2 last week to bring season total to 76-18.

Here's this week's picks.

Arkansas at LSU

When comparing scores of common opponents, it appears the Razorbacks don't have much chance. They lost to Auburn 52-20, and the Tigers won 27-23; Hogs lost to Alabama 41-9, and LSU lost 24-10; and both beat Ole Miss, but the Razorbacks did so 38-37 while the Tigers handled the Rebels 40-24. Some say you can't compare scores; the Razorbacks better hope that's true. After every loss, LSU Coach Ed Orgeron has won the next game. The Hogs are trying to salvage a disappointing season while the Tigers are looking to improve their bowl game. LSU 28-21

Arkansas State at South Alabama

The Jaguars have one thing going for them: The game is at home. The Red Wolves are looking to get bowl eligible Saturday and stay atop the Sun Belt standings. The Sun Belt has tie-ins with six bowls, so ASU should be going to its seventh consecutive bowl game. Coach Blake Anderson's name most likely will come up in December when there are numerous openings for head coaches. Arkansas State 35-21

Alabama at Mississippi State

If there is one word to define the Bulldogs it is fearless. They seem happy to have the opportunity to play the Crimson Tide this Saturday, especially at home where the cowbells will be ringing for hours before the game even starts. The Tide lost another linebacker for the season, but that is not a defense built around one player. Alabama 31-21

Georgia at Auburn

The game of the week in the SEC. The Tigers are still in the hunt for the SEC West. Their only conference loss was at LSU, but the Bulldogs are on a roll. Georgia 31-24

Florida at South Carolina

It would be a shock if the Gators could find a way to win. They seem to need a GPS to find the end zone. The plug was pulled for the Gators when head Coach Jim McElwain left. The Gamecocks are fighting to finish second behind Georgia and get to a decent bowl. South Carolina 35-10

Kentucky at Vanderbilt

The Commodores snapped a five-game losing streak last week by beating Western Kentucky 31-17, they'll be trying to become the kings of Kentucky football without leaving Nashville. The Wildcats are bowl eligible but managed to lose to Florida and Ole Miss, so you have to wonder how good they really are. Vandy can play decent defense, so expect the Commodores to protect home turf. Vanderbilt 24-17

Louisiana-Lafayette at Ole Miss

Party time in The Grove. Ole Miss 35-24

Tennessee at Missouri

The Tigers have won three straight, but they haven't really beaten anyone. They are two games away from being bowl eligible after starting the season 1-5. After the Volunteers, they are at Vanderbilt and at Arkansas. The Volunteers are a lot like the Gators -- the season is over but someone forget to tell them. Tigers beat another nobody. Missouri 42-24

New Mexico at Texas A&M

A victory by the Aggies gets them bowl eligible, but that's not going to get the wolves off Kevin Sumlin's front porch. Texas A&M 38-20
