Minor driving pickup on Arkansas road ejected, killed in rollover crash

A minor was killed early Friday after he veered off an Arkansas road and overcorrected, rolling a pickup from which he was ejected, state police said.

Shortly before 2 a.m., the youth was headed east on Bear Hollow Road through Fort Smith in a 1998 GMC Sierra, according to a preliminary crash report.

Near the street's 8500 block, the pickup reportedly veered off the road. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll over and eject him, authorities said said.

He later died at Arkansas Children's Hospital, according to the report.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time of the crash.

At least 436 people have died in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary state police data.
