Arkansan charged after missing grandson found on top of tractor, sheriff's office says

An Arkansas man was arrested after his 2-year-old grandson in his care went missing Friday and was later found on a neighbor's tractor, authorities said.

According to a report from the Greene County sheriff’s office, 52-year-old Paul Raymond Hearn reported the boy missing around 3:20 p.m. After deputies arrived at his residence on Greene Road 624, near Paragould, a relative told them both of the boy's parents were out of town and Hearn was watching them.

A neighbor later reportedly drove up with the child in her vehicle.

She told deputies that she found the 2-year-old on top of her tractor and was concerned he had run into her electric fence. The child was crying and covered in dirt, authorities said. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

Hearn then pulled into the residence with his other grandson, “driving at a high rate of speed,” according to the report. A deputy said she had seen the man “driving crazy with the 6-year-old in the car” and added that he had almost hit her vehicle when he passed her on the road.

The children were set to meet with an agent from the Department of Human Services. A deputy noted that he told Hearn his residence was "not fit for an animal to live in."

The 52-year-old remained in Greene County jail Monday, and bail had not been set. He faces charges that include two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
