A Pulaski County Youth Services worker arrested in the rape of a 14-year-old boy also worked as a substitute teacher in Little Rock schools, according to a school district spokeswoman.

On Monday, Pamela Smith confirmed that 27-year-old George Edwin Haney has taught in Little Rock public schools at least five times in the past year. The district hired him through WillSub, a company that places substitutes at schools, she said.

According to school records, Haney taught at Dunbar Middle School, Horace Mann Middle School and Forest Heights STEM Academy.

He was arrested around midnight Saturday after an officer found him in the back seat of a vehicle with a 14-year-old boy, the Democrat-Gazette previously reported. Haney’s pants were down and the boy was in his boxers, according to a report from the Little Rock Police Department.

Haney has since been suspended from his position as the director of a county after-school program at Second Baptist Church on John Barrow Road.

On Monday, he remained at Pulaski County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
