Alexander voting today on sales tax

The city of Alexander will hold a special election today in an effort to increase its sales tax.

Voters will be asked to approve a 1 percentage point raise in the city's sales and use tax for the general fund. This would increase the city's local tax from 2 percent to 3 percent. If approved, the new tax would take effect Jan. 1.

Alexander, which is in Pulaski and Saline Counties, has about 2,900 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Saline County voters who live within the city limits of Alexander can vote at Pathfinder Human Resources Building 12B, which is at Arkansas 111 South in Alexander. Saline County residents can check their voter registration status at www.voterview.org or they can call (501) 303-5630.

Pulaski County voters who live within the city limits of Alexander can vote at First Missionary Baptist Church, 10300 Mabelvale West, in Little Rock. Pulaski County residents can get information from www.pulaskiclerk.com, votepulaski.net or (501) 340-8336.
