The Arkansas State University women's basketball team earned its first victory over an SEC school in almost 10 years with a 70-69 triumph at Florida on Tuesday night in Gainesville, Fla.

ASU's last victory over a school from the SEC was Nov. 18, 2007 when it defeated Alabama 49-40 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Akasha Westbrook led ASU (1-1) with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Jada Ford and Peyton Martin each had 15 points. Starr Taylor added nine points and three steals.

The Red Wolves shot 38.4 percent (28 of 73) while the Gators went 26-of-51 (51 percent) from the floor.

ASU trailed 63-61 with 4:35 left when Ford hit a three-pointer to give the Red Wolves a 64-63 lead, which it never relinquished.

Ford's jumper extended the lead to 68-63 with 3:08 remaining. But Florida's Haley Lorenzen cut the lead to 68-66 with 47 seconds left after making one of two free throws.

Westbrook hit a jumper with 25 seconds left to make it 70-66 ASU. Funda Nakkasoglu then made a three-pointer to pull Florida within 70-69 with 20 seconds remaining.

ASU turned the ball over with six seconds left, giving Florida a chance to tie or win the game. But Dyandria Anderson's three-point attempt did not fall with two seconds left and Westbrook got the rebound for ASU and time expired.
