Stapleton at Verizon, Cate Brothers at CALS theater

Acclaimed country singer Chris Stapleton, along with opening acts Marty Stuart and Brent Cobb, will perform at 7 p.m. today in Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Admission is $70.75, $50.75 and $30.75.

Stapleton recently won the Country Music Association awards for Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year (From a Room: Volume 1). He went from writing more than 150 songs for other artists to releasing an album, Traveller, in 2015 that was a platinum-selling, award-winning debut. His third CD, From a Room: Volume 2, will be released Dec. 1.

Opening act Brent Cobb's cousin is Dave Cobb, who is known for his successful producing of albums by Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell.

The Cate Brothers Band will return to the CALS Ron Robinson Theater to perform in concert at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is $20.

The Cate Brothers, a legendary Arkansas group who chose semi-retirement a few years ago, occasionally play in their home area of Northwest Arkansas, but seldom in central Arkansas, other than this show and one in November 2015 at the Ron Robinson Theater. Singer and keyboardist Ernie Cate prefers life around home. His twin brother, guitarist Earl Cate, still enjoys life on the road, and leads his own band, Earl & Them, which still performs around the state.

The other members of the band are David Renko on saxophone, John Davies on bass and Terry Cagle on drums.

Formed in Tuscaloosa, Ala., in 2011, CBDB, which originally stood for "Crunchy Babes Dig Bongos," later decided the initials stood for "Crazy Boogie Dance Band."

Jeans, 36, a native of east Texas, got his start in 1996 when he finished second in the International Jimi Hendrix Competition for guitar players and was praised by Al Hendrix, the father of the late Jimi Hendrix. In 2000, he released his debut CD, Hands On, and in 2005, he released a DVD, Live at Juanita's, recorded at the Little Rock club.
