sounds like he got fired because his boys couldn't play ball. maybe hiring a magician to take his place will improve the football teams efforts.

At least one UA alumnus thinks there is something insidious that has yet to come out. Personally, I think a powerful booster had a hand. The only way this really makes sense is if Long was going to keep Bielema another year. And I can't see how he could at this point. With the exception of John L, the coaching hires were, at the time, pretty good. Petrino. Bielema - who was coming off 3 Big Ten Championships (if memory serves). Toss Anderson in there too.

Perhaps someone should challenge Long's firing on grounds that the BOT apparently ordered Chancellor Steinmetz to fire him in executive session without a public vote immediately afterwards, as is generally required by the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act when such sessions are held (ONLY for personnel matters). If anything, blaming Long for Bielema's shortcomings will only delay Bielema's replacement.

@NoUserName: And Long had an excuse for JLS: Petrino's firing came at the WORST possible time to hire his replacement. He wasn't officially an interim coach, but JLS was an interim coach because we had ZERO chance of finding a decent replacement for Petrino in February.

I remember RB. I disagree in part, however. UA should have promoted from within for the year. Much like Ohio State and Fickel. I remember thinking Horton (?) at the time. John L left Weber high and dry when UA came calling which spoke volumes. Terrible hire even without hindsight.

Really TravisBickle--where does Coach B buy his clothes---Tents-R-Us? You are disgusting. I am sure you look like Brad Pitt. Coach Bielema is a good and decent man who loves his players and has shown that in every way. We had a bad year but he could remedy that if they would give him a chance. Like you could coach a down of football. And the board of trustees fired Jeff Long who made our athletic department the 14th most profitable one in the country and increased donations and improved facilities/ He also had great impact on coaches and players. Those people in power sound as stupid as you.

Maybe they should appoint a "special counsel", could be collusion somewhere, you know.

With all due respect, BB has had 5 years of chances. I don't question his ability to coach or his love of his players. I have a question of his ability to motivate and coach the Hogs to win games that they should. Arkansas and the Hogs mentality has to have the right coach as all teams do. He has had a full cycle and all the players are his recruits. It is time to let him go.
