Broncos show they perceive Lynch as bust

Quarterback Paxton Lynch didn’t play Sunday in Denver’s loss to Cincinnati, which one area columnist said is a sign the Broncos don’t have confidence in the 2016 first-round pick.

Paul Klee of The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo., said by not playing quarterback Paxton Lynch in Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Denver Broncos do not believe in their 2016 first-round pick from Memphis.

The Broncos started Brock Osweiler for the third consecutive game while Lynch did not see the field.

"It's time to face the facts," Klee wrote. "The Broncos used a first-round pick to draft Jeff Spicoli. Surf's up, Paxton Lynch. Is he so bad the Broncos won't let him grab a board?

"The Broncos are 3-7. A team that hasn't won since the first day of October would have to win out simply to achieve a winning record.

"Whither Paxton Lynch? The goofball quarterback who dabs at Nuggets games like a teenager and has struggled to grasp the playbook, according to former coordinator Rick Dennison after the Jacksonville game, spent much of Sunday afternoon on the bench, literally, instead of interacting with coaches or teammates. At times it looks like Lynch has been quarantined to a safe space with the bird flu or something.

"Here, I'll say it, since everyone else seems to be afraid to tell a truth that hurts the most: Lynch is so bad the Broncos won't even play him during the franchise's longest losing streak since 1990. Yes, the Broncos are still mathematically in the playoff hunt. And I'm still in the running for World's Sexiest Man of 2018."

Tweeting Trump

President Donald Trump said Monday that the NFL should suspend Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch.

Lynch sat during most of the U.S. national anthem and stood for the Mexican anthem before Sunday's game against the New England Patriots at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Lynch hasn't stood for the national anthem since returning from retirement this season.

Trump tweeted early Monday: "Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down."

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the movement last season when he refused to stand during the anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality.

No catching Favre

In his Monday Morning Quarterback column on themmqb.com, NFL reporter Peter King said Brett Favre's record for starting 297 consecutive games will be a tougher record to break than Jerry Rice's 1,549 receptions.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning started his 209th consecutive game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, moving to second behind Favre, who played with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.

"If Manning were to pass Favre, he'd do it in Week 3 of 2023," King said. "Manning would be 42 years, 9 months old. Favre's 297 games are the equivalent of 18 full seasons and nine games into the 19th.

"Not to be disrespectful of Rice's mark, and that, too, may never be passed. But I think it's realistic to think a couple of great receivers will come along (or are here now) who one day could threaten Rice's mark. If Antonio Brown (708 catches, age 29) stays healthy and continues his pace from the past five years -- both big ifs -- he'll be around 1,500 catches at age 36. I'm not saying it'll happen. I just think it's more possible than a quarterback starting every game for 19 years."
