Howard's 26 paces UCA

Jordan Howard scored 26 points to lead the University of Central Arkansas men's basketball team to a 73-64 victory over South Carolina State on Tuesday night in Orangeburg, S.C.

Howard made four of the Bears' seven three-pointers against the Bulldogs.

UCA (3-2), which has won two consecutive games since an overtime loss Nov. 15 at UCLA, shot 44.6 percent (25 of 56) from the floor. Darraja Parnell finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Mathieu Kamba added nine points and five rebounds.

The Bears trailed 30-28 at halftime but used a 14-0 run to take a 51-40 lead with 9:11 remaining, with three-pointers from Howard and Parnell highlighting the spurt. It was UCA's largest lead of the game.

South Carolina State (0-5) was led by Donte Wright, who scored 23 points and made six three-pointers. Ian Kinard had 11 points while Janai Rayner-Powell chipped in with eight points.

SUN BELT WOMEN

ARKANSAS STATE 84, TENN.-MARTIN 73

Jada Ford scored 23 points and made five three-pointers as the Arkansas State University women's basketball team defeated Tennessee-Martin at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.

Also for the Red Wolves (2-2), Akasha Westbrook finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Peyton Martin and Payton Tennison each had 11 points.

ASU shot 50 percent (29 of 58) from the floor, 8 of 20 from three-point range and 18 of 19 from the free-throw line.

The Skyhawks (1-3) were led by Chelsey Perry's 18 points. Perry also had seven rebounds and two steals. Myah Taylor scored 13 points and Janekia Mason added 12 points for Tennessee-Martin, which shot 47.5 percent (29 of 61) from the floor.

The Red Wolves trailed 38-37 at halftime but outscored the Skyhawks 47-35 in the second half. Tennison's three-pointer with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter gave ASU a 40-38 lead, which it never relinquished. ASU led 61-53 at the end of the third quarter.
