• Frank at the age of 25 had spent 20 months of a five-year sentence at the Arkansas Penitentiary on a bad check charge when he was released to his father, a retired federal employe. "He was a wild and wooly kid; some college, sharp with great potential. I'd met him in prison and he was the type you couldn't help but like. But he lacked direction." Billy Carlton Bramlett, 30, resident manager of Hope House at 802 Rock Street, the "half-way house" between prison and society, was discussing one of his prize alumni. Frank now is a youth counselor at a country home for boys.

• A 10-year-old boy was in critical condition at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock on Friday after getting injured on a high-speed carnival ride at the Wings Over the Prairie Festival in Stuttgart, a spokesman for the hospital said. Harper Grubbs, the spokesman, declined to release additional information about the condition of Terry Grabert, who was injured while on a ride called "The Orbiter" with his sister, police said. Stuttgart Assistant Police Chief Steven Bobo said the Orbiter was cleared for use again Thursday by Chief Inspector Mike Watson of the Arkansas Department of Labor's Amusement Rides Division.
