U.S. 70 widening to shut road lanes

Work on a $78.5 million project to widen U.S. 70 will require lane closings on a frontage road in Garland County for three days beginning Monday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews paving the U.S. 70 frontage road from its junction with U.S. 79 and east for one-eighth of a mile will require alternate closings of the eastbound and westbound lanes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Wednesday, weather permitting.

Flaggers will control traffic, but the department said motorists should consider alternate routes, including U.S. 270.

The work is part of a project to widen 17.5 miles of U.S. 70 between Interstate 30 in Benton and U.S. 70B in Hot Springs to five lanes from what is a largely two-lane route.
