Olney at Irish tavern, Bonamassa at Verizon

David Olney

David Olney will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Little Rock's Hibernia Irish Tavern in a show sponsored by the Little Rock Folk Club. Admission is $15; $10 for military; $8 for students with IDs; and free for accompanied children age 12 and under.

Olney, a singer-songwriter who has released 28 albums over four decades, beginning with Eye of the Storm in 1986. His 2009 album, Ol' Diz: A Musical Baseball Story -- A Songwriters Work in Progress, with John Hadley, was about Arkansas-born baseball legend Dizzy Dean.

He has written songs that have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Earle, Del McCoury. He has worked with or performed with Tom Russell, John Hadley, Sergio Webb, Mimi Farina, Steve Young, Daniel Lanois, Kevin Welch, Slaid Cleaves, Tim O'Brien and The Wailin' Jennys.

His music has been featured on the ABC-TV series, Nashville.

Blues rock guitar star Joe Bonamassa will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday in the theater configuration at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Tickets are $79, $89, $99, $125 and $149.

Bonamassa, whose previous Verizon concert was in November 2014, is on tour to promote his latest studio solo album, Blues of Desperation. He will be backed by musicians who performed on his Grammy-nominated album, Live at the Greek Theatre, including Anton Fig on drums, Michael Rhodes on bass, Reese Wynans on piano and Hammond organ, Lee Thornburg on trumpet, Paulie Cerra on saxophone, along with backing vocalists.

His career includes 17 No. 1 Billboard blues albums as he has built his presence on social media, with more than 2.7 million Facebook friends, 148,000 Twitter followers and 270,000 Instagram followers.

Also at the arena, Big Church Night Out!, a touring show that features The Newsboys, Sidewalk Prophets, 7eventh Time Down, Bianca, Derek Minor, Adam Agee of Audio Adrenaline plus worship leader Jamison Strain, speaker Jeremy Willet and illusionist Brock Gill, will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday. John Willis and Phillip Rex Huddleston will conduct a songwriting workshop and master class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Wildwood Park in Little Rock. The fee is $50, which includes performances by Willis and Huddleston and a ticket to Into the Woods, a musical to be produced at Wildwood in April.

The workshop is designed for students in eighth grade or older. Reservations are required.
